Young visitors to two Summit Metro Parks can build, hop, crawl, dig and discover off-trail, just like the many wild creatures that call the parks home.
Naturalists will be on hand to help guide nature play experiences during the following "Wild in the Woods" programs:
Aug. 3, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., at Liberty Park, Twinsburg Ledges Area,
9999 Liberty Road, Twinsburg
Aug. 9, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., at Goodyear Heights Metro Park, Pioneer Area,
550 Frazier Ave., Akron
During the programs, kids can get creative with tree cookies (i.e., stackable discs cut from fallen trees), a potting bench for making mud pies, A-frame forts and stump hoppers, plus a log climber and other items.
In March the park district opened Nature Play areas in Liberty Park's Twinsburg Ledges Area, inside Maple Loop Trail, and in Goodyear Heights Metro Park, across from Pioneer Shelter. Both Nature Play areas are identified by signs and markers. Children and their parents have to stay within designated boundaries, and other park rules apply.
