Silver Lake -- The village recently pledged funding and applied for additional money to help pay for a nearly $1.6 million sewer project that officials are hoping to do next year.

Village Council on June 28 approved a resolution pledging cooperation and authorizing the mayor to commit to providing $477,000 for a sanitary sewer replacement project on Lee Road, North Park Drive, Lodge Avenue and Maiden Lane. The project, according to Mayor Bernie Hovey, would affect 210 homes.

The $477,000 would come from the general fund, sewer fund and/or sewer capital fund, according to the language of the legislation.

The overall cost of the project is approximately $1.59 million, according to the application the village filed with the Ohio Public Works Commission. The mayor noted the village recently applied for an Ohio Public Works Commission grant for an additional $610,000 for the project. The village is also seeking a loan from the OPWC for $500,803, according to the application.

Hovey said officials have "every expectation to believe that we will be approved for the loan, and should hear from OPWC within a couple of months."

However, the mayor said it "may be December or even January 2018 before we hear whether we received the grant."

If the village receives the grant, Hovey said he expects the project to go out to bid in April 2018, with the project tentatively starting in May or June 2018, and the work finishing in September 2018.

The mayor noted that work began July 5 and is expected to be finished July 17, weather permitting.
