While rain poured from the sky and thunder rolled through Hudson, music enthusiasts, including those on the Laurel Lake bus, community leaders and residents from Hudson and surrounding communities, made their way from the wet parking lot to the high school auditorium to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the summer concert series with the Cleveland POPS Orchestra.

A few minutes after 7 p.m. Carol Topilow led his nationally recognized orchestra in the Star Spangled Banner and the excitement began. Mayor David A. Basil read a proclamation from the city in honor of the 40 years that volunteers have organized the summer concert series that takes place in Hudson on Sunday evenings in front of the gazebo.

The orchestra kept up the festive mood with audience participation and Rick Kellar, president of the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation, joined the orchestra for a song. Rick noted that "We are grateful for the hard work of the bandstand committee, and were proud to help make this 40th anniversary event a special occasion. Our Founder, Peg Morgan, was always proud of the Hudson community, and we continue to appreciate the great volunteer spirit evident, and continuing, throughout the city."

The Cleveland POPS received several standing ovations throughout the evening. The smiles from the audience as they left the auditorium were enough to clear the skies as they made their way back through the parking lot.

Then on June 25, the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast presented a concert of wind band favorites. The Band of the Northeast represents the Pennsylvania Air National Guard, the United States Air National Guard, and the United States Air Force as musical ambassadors for both military and civilian audiences throughout the entire Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region. A traditional Air National Guard squadron, the band consists of 40 members, all traditional Air National Guard members with civilian careers who meet one weekend a month to rehearse and perform. Its ranks are filled with professional musicians, educators, students, administrators, salesmen, builders and other professionals. The band has received many awards, including the Air Force Outstanding Unit award and the Pennsylvania Governor's Unit Citation. Its annual concert tours have taken it to Germany, Holland, France, the Azores, Antigua-West Indies, Norway, England, Denmark, and throughout the United States.
