Kate Schlademan, owner of The Learned Owl Book Shop since March 2013, is making a name for herself among booksellers across the nation. Currently President of the Great Lakes Independent Booksellers Association, she recently was named as a member of the national Booksellers' Advisory Committee. While attending the recent international Booksellers Expo in New York City, Schlademan took part in her first meeting with the Committee, which, with representatives from across the country, meets twice yearly to share thoughts, concerns and ideas with other booksellers and the staff of the American Booksellers Association.

Schlademan has also joined a group of booksellers in a national group called "Indies Introduce." Each reads and reviews a selection of books by debut authors that are submitted by the publishers.

Watch for Schlademan's favorite -- "Dear Martin," which she says "is very eye-opening, and should be required reading for all students."
