VCA's theme for the past school year was "Love Wins." Several classes participated in a variety of missions projects during the year.

Eighth-graders spent a week in Harrisburg, Pa., conducting a church service and refurbishing living quarters for people moving back into society who had been homeless. Leaders were Sarah Telepak, Kristy Aiken and Jeff Davidson of Lastleaf Ministries.

Sixth-graders provided free child care at the City Mission's Laura's Home. VCA's students performed a puppet show, led a song, conducted a craft and served snacks. They also presented a check for more than $250 to the preschool director to cover a field trip to Chuck E. Cheese.

Fourth-graders made cards and passed them out to residents of Aurora Manor while visiting there, while second-graders delivered bags of brand new school supplies to an elementary school in Cleveland.

VCA's 15th annual bowl-a-thon raised $13,574 from more than 200 supporters. The Run Like It's Recess 5K in late April, plus an online auction, brought in more than $16,000.

VCA officials report that 92 percent of the past year's students have re-enrolled for the coming year. There are some openings remaining, and parents can call the school at 330-562-8191 to find out about enrolling.

Three of the teachers who were new to the school this past year are Jennifer Andrews (kindergarten), Donna Zerull (pre-kindergarten) and Sonia Sturgis (middle school Spanish). Zerull had been a teacher's aide for nine years prior to taking over her post.

This spring, VCA's drama department presented "Singin' in the Rain Jr.," with 56 cast and crew members and more than 600 tickets sold. News anchorwoman Danita Harris of Channel 5 and Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson visited the school during the spring.

Donors to the Eagles Fund are needed. It helps pay for staff and teacher salaries, plus educational operations, and financial aid gifts help families with a portion of their children's tuition. As this school year wound down, 32 families and 51 students received financial help. All gifts are tax-deductible.
