AURORA -- It's that time of year again! Aurora's farmers market kicks off its 2 1/2-month run today (June 14), with hours on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Church in Aurora.

It's the seventh season for the local event, which will run until Aug. 30. It will feature 26 vendors, all based in Northeast Ohio.

Joining the list of vendors this year are Paw Love Bakery featuring pet treats and Earth Energy Power Snacks featuring healthy, gluten-free items.

For the first time, many of the vendors will accept credit and debit cards as payment for goods. And officials say there is not a lot of "overlapping" when it comes to vendors.

Patrons can enjoy entertainment, which on opening day will feature a couple who plays steel drums. Other activities include chef demonstrations, balloon art and face-painting and an Aurora Memorial Library booth where patrons can sit down and peruse a variety of books or hear stories told by library staffers.

"The market provides high-quality, fresher products" than conventional grocery stores, according to Matt Johnson, CEO of Red Rock Farmers Market LLC, which runs the local market. "Patrons support local farmers and local businesses."
