Kindergarten Academy set
Give a child a taste of kindergarten with this fun, educational series, June 5 and 26 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Each class focuses on some of the 16 "Skills for Success" recommended by Summit County to help children prepare to learn in kindergarten. The June 5 class focuses on colors and shapes. The class and activities are from 11 a.m to noon. Feel free to bring a peanut-free bagged lunch for a cafeteria-feel as the children watch a video pertaining to the skills of the day from noon to 12:30 p.m. This is for children entering kindergarten in fall 2017 or fall 2018.
Grab the mic June 6
Perform music, recite poetry, do standup, or even a short skit at an open mic night, June 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sign up for a spot and come to the Reading Garden or the meeting rooms, depending on the weather. This is for teens ages 12 years and older. Performers must register; audience members do not need to register.
Make a summer craft
Youth entering grades 6 through 12 can beat the heat in Teen Crossings when they drop-in to make and take Cubeecrafts, June 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. No registration is required.
Race into space
Blast off with the Children's Museum of Cleveland, June 7 from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the library. Children can learn about the moon and traveling in space, and make an out-of- this-world craft. This is for children ages 2 to 5 years with a caregiver.
The science of Superman
Join NASA researcher Dennis Stocker as he explains the real-life basis for the super powers of America's favorite alien, Superman. The talk will be June 7 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Ever wonder why he is so strong? Well, maybe it's because he is used to a much stronger gravity on his home planet, much like humans can lift heavy objects on the moon. Stocker will explore this possibility and all of Superman's powers from a scientific standpoint. This is for ages 10 years and older.
Young Adult book buzz
Amanda Fensch from Penguin Publishing will be at the library June 8 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. to talk about the hottest Young Adult books for summer. There will be free giveaways to those attending.
Adult Services: Intro to Spanish II
