The nonprofit Partners for Theater will present Summit StageFest, a free, one-day outdoor theater festival at 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. June 3, along West Market Street in Highland Square.
The Akron area is rich with theater. To raise public awareness and grow audiences the many companies to perform short plays, scenes, monologues and skits include Weathervane Playhouse, Coach House Theatre, New World Performance Lab, Magical Theatre Company, Ohio Shakespeare Festival, The Illusion Factory, and Rubber City Shakespeare.
The unique event will be the only festival with simultaneous live performances by a wide variety of community theaters in one place on one day, outdoors and free to the public Additionally, entertainers will roam the area.
Booths representing theater groups, other performing arts organizations and vendors will be set up from Portage Path to Casterton Ave. The festival is sponsored by Acme Fresh Market and FirstEnergy.
Former judge and Summit Metro Parks Commissioner Jane Bond, a West Akron resident, and an avid fan of live theater, is behind an effort. She recently started Partners for Theater. The intention is to make Summit StageFest an annual event, but the location could vary.
More information on volunteer opportunities, vendor booth space and performances are available at summitstagefest.org or 234-206-0603.
