Silver Lake -- It's safe to say that this fall's Village Council election will produce at least two new members.

There be a vacancy on Village Council this summer that will need to be filled. That post, along with a second post on the legislative body will be up for grabs in the fall election.

District C Village Council member Karen Fuller announced during the meeting on May 15 that she and her husband Steve are selling their home and moving to Columbus this summer to be closer to their children and grandchildren. She noted it is "very bittersweet" to move after living in Silver Lake for 41 years.

"I hope it will be a positive move," said Fuller. "We've taken the plunge. My position on Council will need to be filled."

Fuller, who's served on Council for 12 years, said she expects to serve through the end of June "for sure." After that, she noted they could move anywhere from July through September.

She called the village "a wonderful, wonderful place to live."

Fuller's District C spot, as well as the other three district posts, are up for election in November. After the meeting on May 15, District B Council member Carol Steiner told the Falls News-Press that she will not run for re-election this fall. She explained she wanted to publicize her decision now in case someone in the village is interested in running for her spot on Council.

"I love the job," said Steiner, who was first elected to the District B post in 1997. "I would do it again, but it's time for somebody else in the village to get involved."

Steiner is a retired high school English teacher. Her final 18 years on the job were spent at Buchtel High School in Akron.
