Northfield Village Firefighters responded to a house fire at 53 Beech Ave. May 4 around 4:15 a.m.
The resident of the structure, whose name is not being released at this time, was able to escape the fire and get to a neighbor's home where 911 was called.
The woman was later taken to a local emergency room for evaluation for issues not related to the fire, said Fire Chief Jason Buss. She was alone in the home except for her dog, who died in the fire.
He said the first floor of the home is a complete loss with significant damage on the second floor. The home suffered significant smoke, fire and heat damage. Buss did not have a value of the damage but said he wouldn't be surprised if the home was a total loss.
The fire is under investigation but Buss said an exact cause is undetermined at this time.
"The fire appears to have started in the kitchen area of the home," he said.
No firefighters were injured during firefighting activities and the fire was brought under control at about 4:35 a.m. Macedonia, Twinsburg, Oakwood Fire Departments and Valley Fire District all assisted Northfield Village in fighting the fire.
No further details were available as of press time.
