NORTHFIELD VILLAGE The Hard Rock Rocksino is adding new options for motorists and the more than 3 million visitors they receive each year.

The Rockstop Gas and Wash will be the first Hard Rock branded gas station and car wash, according to Mark Birtha, president of Hard Rock Rocksino Northfield Park. He said the new gas station and car wash are serving as a prototype for other Hard Rock properties across the globe.

"Hard Rock International has been around more than 46 years and this is the first gas station/carwash program that they have ever developed," Birtha said. "We are excited to break ground and be innovated here in Northfield, Ohio for a company that has more than 200 locations around the world."

He added the $3 million project is not only unique to Hard Rock but offers clientele an additional amenity that other racinos do not.

"There aren't too many people out there who don't need gas or who live in northeast Ohio and have a dirty car from time to time," Birtha said. "Adding that benefit to our patrons just seemed like a logical next step."

The new Rockstop Gas and Wash will be located on the northwest side of the Rocksino along Route 8.

The entire site will occupy 45,000 square feet including a 3,500 square foot retail/car wash building. The gas station will feature six double pumps a total of 12 handles to dispense gas.

The pumps will feature Hard Rock style lighting effects and LED TVs, allowing for the broadcast of music videos and commercials. The car wash will also have a musical and visual component but details are still being worked out, Birtha said.

He said the convenience market portion of the project will have unique merchandise that is not available anywhere else including the Rock Shop inside the Rocksino.

According to Birtha, members of the Rocksino's Rock Star Rewards loyalty program and company employees will receive a discount on their gas purchases and car washes and may use their points to redeem services.

"The Hard Rock's latest expansion shows the company's continuing commitment to the Village of Northfield and gives visitors another reason to patronize the Hard Rock property and the village." says Jesse Nehez, Mayor, Northfield Village.

Birtha said the new project is not necessarily indicative of a hotel being built, which has been a project discussed at times since the Rocksino opened three and half years ago, but the hotel project is next in line when it comes to expanding the Northfield Village property.

"We have heard loud and clear our guests would like us to be an overnight destination," Birth said adding the majority of the Rocksino's business comes from a 30-40 mile radius but they do attract some out of state visitors. "That is without at doubt the thing we hear the most of here at the property; it is very high on our radar and I am hoping we can have some new information we can share ... over the remainder of this year."

Bowen Designs is the architect for the project and also designed the Rocksino's third gaming/smoking patio. Adam Building Co. is overseeing the construction.

Both were involved in the building of the Rocksino itself. The new gaming and smoking patio will be located adjacent to the Rocksino's Constant Grind restaurant, a 24/7 bistro, increasing the total number of games at the Rocksino from 2,265 to more than 2,300.

According to a press release from the Hard Rock, "construction on Rockstop gas and wash started in early May with a planned completion date in mid-September 2017. Construction on the new gaming and smoking patio is underway with an expected completion date in early June. The projects are expected to generate close to 100 construction jobs and over 35 new permanent jobs."

The Rocksino opened Dec. 18, 2013 and is located on the Northfield Park harness racing grounds, which offers more than 200 live harness races each year.

In addition to video lottery terminal games, the Rocksino is home to the Hard Rock Live music venue, and Club Velvet which hosts comedians, illusion acts, dance parties, special events and is also readily available for private parties and events.

Five eateries located inside the Rocksino as well including, The Hard Rock Cafe; Kosar's Wood-Fired Grill, Concerto Italian Kitchen, Fresh Harvest and Constant Grind.
