A Tuscarawas County man is dead after an incident late Saturday at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park.
Dave Harmon, an investigator with the Portage County Coroner's Office, said David Richards, 33, was transported to University Hospitals Portage Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at about 1 a.m. Sunday.
Harmon said Richards was attending a concert at the park when a security guard found him lying in the mud. The guard approached Richards, who apparently jumped up and started fighting with the guard before collapsing.
Lt. Greg Johnson of the Portage County Sheriff's Office said details of the incident were sketchy.
"We're looking into it," Johnson said.
His body has been taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office, which is expected to do an autopsy Monday. The possibility of substance abuse will be a part of the investigation, Harmon said.
