Macedonia, Ohio – The American Legion Nordonia Hills Post 801 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6768 announce the ground breaking ceremony for the Veterans Memorial Park will be conducted on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at 2:00PM.

The Park, located at the southeast corner of E. Aurora Road (State Route 82) and S. Bedford Road, Macedonia, covers approximately three-quarters of an acre, and was previously named Colonel Peck Park. In late 2015, we petitioned the Mayor and City Council to allow us to erect a monument to honor all veterans at that park. They enthusiastically agreed and renamed the park Veterans Memorial Park.

The first stage of the reconstruction of the park will consist of a gateway, six foot by six foot jet black granite memorial with the emblems of the five branches of military, mounted on a grey granite base, and three flag poles. The memorial will be surrounded by a plaza of paver bricks. Later stages will include a Killed in Action (KIA) plaza with a reflecting pool, and up to twelve smaller memorials with a brief history of each of the major conflicts since the Revolutionary War. Handicapped accessible picnic tables and benches will be placed throughout the park along walkways.

Guest speaker at the ceremony will be Macedonia Mayor Joseph Migliorini. Also speaking will be American Legion Post Commander David Pristash, and Quartermaster Dan Davis from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A dedication of the memorial is tentatively set for September 15, 2017.
