Two businesses are kicking off a collaboration with a special in-store event from May 7 through 14.

Portage Trail Barn, a business that collaborates with local artists, vendors, and crafters to bring handmade gifts and goods to consumers, is partnering with Wild Birds Unlimited, a backyard bird feeding and nature store.

Wild Birds Unlimited, 597 Howe Ave., will feature goods from Portage Trail Barn in their gift department that also includes items made in the USA and Fair Trade imports.

"We are so excited to have Portage Trail Barn in the store," said Chris Stranahan, owner of the Cuyahoga Falls Wild Bird Unlimited store. "Our WBU core purpose is to 'bring people and nature together' and this is another example of how we fulfill that purpose."

To kick off this collaboration, the first Portage Trail Barn Spring Pop Up Sale will run May 7 14. This in-store event will feature accessories, home dcor, and gift items from local small businesses.

"Bringing the Portage Trail Barn brand into Wild Birds Unlimited is a natural fit," said Mary Beth Filon, owner of Portage Trail Barn. "It's more than just combining our businesses. It's joining our communities."

Wild Birds Unlimited was expected to have a special Mother's Day Open House event on May 6 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The program was slated to have activities with the vendors, light refreshments, and specials.

Rachel Sokira, manager of Wild Birds Unlimited, said, "Many of the artists have created items for handmade craft shows and markets in the greater Akron area and some sell online. We're pleased to be providing a brick-and-mortar location for their items for this short term engagement."

Sokira noted that, including Portage Trail Barn, there will be 12 vendors onhand at Wild Birds Unlimited through May 14. Featured vendors will be: Nature Photography, showcasing nature photos taken in the local parks; The Feathered Nest, demonstrating methods for repurposing vintage linens into gift items; le petite atelier, creating rustic wood signs; Jerrett Farms, working with alpaca, rabbit, and wool fibers using old-fashioned hand tools; Handmade by U, offering greeting cards; The Natural Body, lip balms; JDW, metal home goods; Memphis Bailey, wire and bead pendants; The White Rabbit, home goods and gifts; Mae Day Gifts, metal stamped accessories; and Images in Bloom, soap and bath products.
