Girl Scouts of North East Ohio announces this year's Women of Distinction honorees who will be celebrated at a luncheon on May 19 at The Union Club of Cleveland.

GSNEO established the Women of Distinction Awards Luncheon to raise funds for Girl Scout scholarships and financial aid while honoring women who go above and beyond to make our communities better places to live, work, and raise a family.

In addition, Megan Garvey of Nordonia High School will be one of three deserving girls who will be presented with the Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarship Award. The other two are Rebecca Trumbull, Lake Catholic High School and Shelby Stevens, Columbia High School.

2017 Women of Distinction Honorees are:

Stephanie Brown-Houston, NASA Glenn Research Center

Debra Green, Medical Mutual

Victoria Kress, Ph.D., Youngstown State University

Ann Manby, AAA Akron Board of Trustees

Carole Mount, Ph.D., Walsh University

These women will be recognized for their remarkable achievements as business, community, academic and civic leaders dedicated to supporting opportunities for women and girls. The 10 nominees were selected by a committee of community members led by Women of Distinction Event Chair Theresa Carter. Carter is president of OMNOVA Solutions Foundation and a former Women of Distinction honoree.

Also presented at the luncheon is this year's Advancing Women Award, which will be presented to The Sherwin-Williams Co. for its proven commitment to advancing women in the workplace in numerous programs and policies. One program in particular is the Sherwin-Williams Women's Club, an inclusive group of women, established 106 years ago to promote camaraderie and philanthropy. Over the years, the Club has grown to more than 600 members who devote countless volunteer hours to organizations promoting the health and well-being of women and children. Since 1984, it has been the Company's policy to match any donations to the Women's Club done organizations.

In addition to matching the donations of the Women's Club, the company has lent additional financial and/or additional in-kind support to organizations that include: Great Lakes Science Center (Girls Go! Science), American Red Cross (Go Red for Women), The City Mission (Laura's Home), Girl Scouts of North East Ohio, Womankind, and United Way of Greater Cleveland (Women's Leadership Council).

These honorees have a strong commitment to engaging in the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. They also demonstrate high scholastic achievement, creativity, initiative and community outreach, and they embody the Council's belief that young women with promise today will become tomorrow's leaders. The three finalists will each receive a college scholarship.
