Four students -- Jennifer Tomak, Claire Kremyar, Taniah Thomas and Caroline Orzochowski -- who call themselves the Simply Hygiene team, are planning a 5K fun run/walk to support the Emergency Assistance Center with donations of personal hygeine items.

The fun run/walk will be May 21 at Nordonia High School. It will include the 5K fun run, a kids' one-mile run, and a family one-mile walk.

All proceedsbenefit the hygiene section of the Emergency Assistance Center.

They say studies show a family of four in the United States spends $77 per month on hygiene and personal care items and the average minimum wage worker who works full-time makes $1,304 per month, making personal hygeine items one of the first expenses to be cut when times are hard.

The Emergency Assistance Center is devoted to helping families in Northeast Ohio, but is in need of hygeine items to support its clients.

"I love it. For one thing I am so excited to see young students engaging with their community," said Joyce Hunt, executive director of the Emergency Assistance Center. "Definitely since the Emergency Assistance Center is seeing around 900 area people that are in need. So for these students to get involved is so helpful to us and of course the 900 people coming in seeking out these hygiene items. So, we are grateful for the involvement."
