Maplewood Career Center's Adult Education program announces the addition of a cosmetology program to its evening program offerings.
The Cosmetology program will begin on June 5 and is expected to fill up quickly.
"We are excited to expand our offerings to further meet the needs of our students and the community," said Michael Hinton, director of Workforce Development and Adult Education at Maplewood. "This program will provide students with the skills and confidence they need to pursue a career in the cosmetology industry."
The Cosmetology lab will provide each student with the tools they need to achieve a successful education and prepare for the licensing exam. Upon completion of the program, students will take the licensing exam.
Each student will be provided with a kit that will include all of the tools required to succeed in their education and launch their careers. Kits include shears, clips, mannequin heads and more. Each student will also receive a personalized smock.
Once students have completed 50 percent of the course, they will have the opportunity to perform various services for the public. This provides a great opportunity for students to gain real-world experience and skills.
Individuals who successfully pass the licensing exam may seek employment in the cosmetology field, or register for employment assistance. Employment assistance will work with the students to find open positions for which to apply.
Maplewood is now accepting student registrations for the 15-month program (1,500 hours). Evening classes are available to meet the needs of adults currently in the workforce. Registration must be complete by May 19. The cost of the program is $6,200 and payment plans are available to individuals who qualify. To register, contact Maplewood Career Center at 330-296-2892 Monday through Thursday from 2-9 p.m.
