NORTHFIELD VILLAGE Planning Commission members are shooting down a 123-foot tower proposed for the right-of-way land by village hall.
Village Engineer Richard Wasosky told the commission April 19 that wireless provider Mobilitie proposed building a data tower on the corner of North Plaza Drive and Route 8.
Wasosky told the commission the plan was ill-conceived and the average height for light poles along Route 8 are 55 feet.
"The original plan he has is an extremely sketchy plan done by a firm in Massachusetts who's never been out here and it was absolutely one of the worst plans I have ever seen," he said.
The proposed tower was for data access, such as home security controls from mobile apps and improving bandwidth for downloading data, according to Law Director Brad Bryan.
In an April 21 email to the News Leader a Mobilitie spokesperson said the company has since changed its plans.
"Mobilitie has revised its build-out strategy, and is not intending to install a transport site at Northfield Village."
