5 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK

If you have an event you would like to submit, send your name, with a phone number and info about the event to klahmers@recordpub.com.

1 -- Enjoy community theater's musical

"Brigadoon" opens this weekend (April 28-29) on the Aurora Community Theatre stage. The musical by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe is set in the Scottish Highlands, where Brigadoon, a mysterious village, appears from the mist for just one day every 100 years. Performances will run on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. through May 20, with 3p.m. shows on May 7 and 14.

2 -- Don't forget to donate food

Bags were distributed to local households last Saturday for the annual Fill A Bag, Feed A Family food drive, and volunteers will be around to pick up the bags April 29. Residents are asked to donate non-perishable items. Just place them in the bags, and volunteers will pick them up. The food will go to the Volunteers of America's food pantry.

3 -- Attend Taste of the Western Reserve

The Rotary Club of Aurora is presenting its annual Taste of the Western Reserve on April 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Signature of Solon off Route 43 south of Pettibone Road. The event will feature a couple of dozen area restaurants and food providers with samples available for attendees to enjoy. There also are a silent auction, and raffle ticket sales will benefit Believe in Dreams. The event has raised thousands of dollars in recent years for Rotary causes.

4 -- Get out and vote

Although there are no candidates or countywide issues on the May 2 ballot, there is a very important 5.8-mill additional Aurora school district levy for local residents to consider. Precincts will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

5 -- Show appreciation to teachers

Teacher Appreciation Week will be observed in the local schools next week. Aurora schools have a lot of dedicated and hard working teachers, and students and residents are encouraged to show their gratitude to them during the week.
