5 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEK

1 -- Watch local singers, musicians

Several spring concerts are coming up in the next week which involve local students. Leighton musical performances will be April 20 at 6:30 at the school. Performing in the high school auditorium are the following groups: the high school choir April 25 at 7 p.m., the high school band April 26 at 7 p.m. and the high school orchestra April 27 at 7 p.m.

2 -- View AHS spring play, art show

Aurora High's drama program will present the musical "Anything Goes" April 21-23, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium. Play attendees also can view artwork by Aurora school district students, which will be on display in the commons area.

3 -- Donate food to Aurora's VOA

The annual Fill A Bag, Feed A Family food drive gets under way this weekend when dozens of volunteers will drop off bags at local homes. Residents are asked to donate non-perishable items. They can place them in the bags, and volunteers will return April 29 to pick up the donations, which will be sorted and taken to the Volunteers of America.

4 -- Find out about the opioid addiction crisis

The Aurora Chamber of Commerce will host a community drug awareness event April 22 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Aurora Inn. Attendees will learn about the drug overdose crisis, addiction process and resources in Portage County. Speakers include representatives from the Aurora Police Department, Mental Health & Recovery Board of Portage County, Townhall II and the Portage County Health District. The event is free and open to the public.

5 -- Purchase a book or two

The Friends of Aurora Memorial Library will have another of its book sales April 22 during regular library hours -- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. -- in the gallery (basement) of the library. There will be a ton of books and other materials to choose from.
