Summit Educational Service Center's (ESC) TALK program was recently awarded a grant from the GPD Foundation for its Hear, Talk, Learn Expanded project.

The program will receive $6,951 to be used immediately. Dollars will also be used for equipment and training for the 2017-18 school year. This is a continuation of the grant dollars that were received from the Foundation last year.

Summit ESC's Director of Student Services Kristin Fazio, Audiologist Carrie Spangler and Student Service Coordinator Kristen Nowak submitted the application to receive the grant.

"I would like to extend a special thank you to the GPD Foundation," said Fazio. "Through the Foundation's support, we have been able to provide optimal supports and services to students with hearing loss in our region."

The grant dollars will allow the program to continue maximizing auditory access for children with hearing loss in the Summit County region through hearing technology and specialized professional learning. This will provide the students with hearing loss increased access to listening and spoken language. Additionally, it will allow the program to expand the number of students who are served.

The TALK program's staff members will also be able to expand their knowledge through professional learning opportunities.
