Summit Metro Parks is willing to train individuals interested in working as lifeguards this summer and to pay the costs of the certification tests.

The catch? Potential lifeguards must already know how to swim. A water test includes, but is not limited to, treading water for two minutes and swimming a continuous distance of 550 yards.

The park district will offer lifeguard and CPR training at no charge for individuals who qualify. Those who are interested must apply and contact park managers no later than April 21 at 3 p.m.

Lake swimming is offered May 27 through Aug. 13 at the Lake Area in Munroe Falls (521 S. River Road, Munroe Falls) and at Silver Creek (5000 Hametown Road, Norton).
