COLUMBUS -- Ohio Department of Insurance Director Jillian Froment announces a free "Welcome to Medicare" presentation at the Twinsburg Senior Center to help soon-to-be Medicare recipients learn about coverage options.

The event is scheduled for April 27 at 2 and 6 p.m. at the Twinsburg Senior Center, 10260 Ravenna Road, Twinsburg. Call the Twinsburg Parks and Recreation Department at 330-963-8722 to register.

Topics will include Medicare Parts A and B benefits, the Part D prescription drug benefit, Medicare Supplement plans, Medicare Advantage plans, financial assistance and key deadlines.

"These events are a great resource for Ohioans who are seeking information about Medicare coverage," Froment said. "Future Medicare recipients will come away from these events better prepared to select coverage that best suits their budget and health care needs."

In 2016 the department ranked No. 1 in the nation and saved Ohioans $28.8 million by assisting people in comparing and selecting appropriate plans and connecting individuals with financial assistance programs, according to the ODI.

People are eligible for Medicare if they or their spouse worked for at least 10 years in Medicare-covered employment; and are 65 years or older and a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

If a person is younger than 65, they may qualify for coverage if they have a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or transplant).

For those unable to attend the Twinsburg talk, the department is offering "Welcome to Medicare" Facebook Live events at and webinars viewable via
