AKRON, Ohio – March 2017 – Rob Harpley, Protective caseworker at Summit County Children Services (SCCS) was recently awarded Outstanding Child Protection Worker of the Year by the agency.  

Harpley received this honor at an agency luncheon commemorating Social Work Month which is celebrated each March.  After 26 years of committed service to children and families of Summit County, Harpley received this award for his strong advocacy for children and high standards of integrity and professionalism.  

Harpley is well respected by his colleagues, service providers and families that he serves.  He excels in engaging families and is often requested to be assigned to a case by a family, peer or court personnel.  He is a role model and mentor to the youth that he serves and goes above and beyond to ensure quality services are being provided to children and families.    

Harpley earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from The University of Akron and is a Licensed Social Worker.  He began his career working with youth in a children's residential center both as a worker and a supervisor.  In 1990, he began his employment at Summit County Children Services.  Most of his career at SCCS has been spent working with youth placed in either group homes or residential facilities. He works diligently to uphold the mission and vision of the agency while developing genuine connections with the youth he serves.
