AKRON -- Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio announces its inaugural "Sneaker Soiree" on April 6 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the University of Akron's InfoCision Stadium, 375 E. Exchange Street in Akron.
The event will celebrate the 10-year anniversary for the Northeast Ohio chapter of Girls on the Run, while raising funds critical to the support of the program and girls in the community. The event provides funding for materials, training and scholarships to program participants throughout Northeast Ohio.
"The idea for the Sneaker Soiree has been in the works for some time," said executive director for Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, Robyn Cutler. "After 10 years, and more than 8,000 girls served through the program, we knew that it was time to bring the event to fruition to meet the growing need of our five counties."
Guests are encouraged to strap on their sneakers in their business attire and join the group for an evening of food and fun. Keynote speaker is Alisha Perkins, a board member of the GOTR Twin Cities chapter. Perkins is also an author, avid runner, MLB wife and mother of two.
"No girl is ever turned away because they cannot afford the program," Cutler says. "Fundraisers, like this Sneaker Soiree, and sponsor organizations help make that promise possible. We are grateful to the supportive and generous businesses that believe in our girls and recognize their potential."
