Wednesday’s windstorm has left a significant number of homes in Portage County without power. Crews are working on repairing the damage but some homeowners may not see power up-and-running until Friday night.

In the meantime, Portage County Commissioners and the Portage County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management are announcing that the Center of Hope in Ravenna will open today  (Thursday, March 9, 2017) as a warming center at 4 p.m. for residents without power.

The center is located at 1081 W. Main St., Ravenna.  It will remain open indefinitely as recovery from the storm progresses.

For help with basic needs, residents should call 211.

Also, particularly important during these conditions, residents should be mindful to watch for downed power lines, hanging debris and other hazards, and pay particular attention to these problems when driving.

To report a downed line to Ohio Edison or a power outage, call 888-544-4877. Also call your local fire department at 911. You can also report a power outage at the Ohio Edison Facebook page “Report an Outage tab” or text OUT to LIGHTS(544487).
