CUYAHOGA FALLS -- Woodridge Local School District has a new treasurer in Thomas B. Morehouse, a Woodridge graduate (Class of 1983) hired to a three-year contact by the Board of Education on Feb. 28.

The Board's contract with Morehouse, effective April 20 to July 31, 2020, states the Board shall pay him an annual salary of $97,500.

As of March 15, Morehouse will serve as Interim Treasurer of the District until the effective date of his contract, the agreement states. He will be compensated for the days he serves in that interim capacity at the per diem rate in effect when he assumes the treasurer's duties under this agreement. In addition to the base annual salary, the Board shall pick up the treasurer's share of the contributions to the School Employees Retirement System ("SERS") and also contributions on the pick-up ("pick-up on the pick-up").

"I am very eager to join the Woodridge team," Morehouse told the Falls News-Press in an email March 1. "While I graduated from Woodridge a long time ago, my kids graduated from Woodridge within the last few years so I've been able to see the great qualities of the district firsthand. It is an excellent district with an even better staff. There are a lot of exciting things going on in and out of the classroom. It is a very exciting time to be a Bulldog."

"From my perspective as a Board member, I am very impressed with Mr. Morehouse's experience and abilities as a Treasurer," President Jeff McHugh said in an email March 1. "He clearly was the ideal candidate to step in to follow our retiring treasurer, Mrs. [Deanna] Levenger. And on top of all that, he is a Woodridge graduate and a Woodridge parent. It does not get much better than that."

"I am very happy to welcome Tom to our team," said Vice President Tammy Heffernan in an email March 1. "I have no doubt he will do a great job. As an added bonus he and his family and parents are /were longtime members of this community and he gets to 'come home.'"

Morehouse will replace Levenger, who announced in January her intention to resign for the purpose of retirement on April 19. The Board unanimously approved Levenger's resignation at a special meeting on Jan. 24. Woodridge's treasurer since 2000, Levenger currently earns $81,011 annually. Prior to her retire/rehire in 2011, she was earning $93,650 per year.

Morehouse has been the treasurer for the Sebring Local School District in Mahoning County since March 2015 when he was hired to a three-year, $72,380 employment contract, according to sister GateHouse Media newspaper the Alliance Review. Prior to that time he was deputy treasurer for the former Portage County Educational Service Center in Ravenna.

Morehouse has served as treasurer of Portage Area Schools Insurance Consortium, vice president of the Local Professional Development Committee and as a past president of the Ohio Treasurers of Education Service Centers Association. Before joining Portage County ESC, he worked as an assistant treasurer for Brooklyn City Schools and an account clerk for Springfield Local Schools.

Morehouse holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from The Ohio State University.

He is married for 24 years with two children ages 21 and 18. He has served as vice president of Woodridge Athletic Boooster Club, president of Cuyahoga Falls Little League North baseball, assistant district administrator of Ohio Little League District 3 and youth coach.
