Here are some photos and info on service projects
The Hudson Kiwanis Basketball Teams recently completed service projects in the community.
The motto for the teams is PASS--Perseverance, Attitude, Sportsmanship and Service.
Each player's goal is to demonstrate each of these during the season.
The fifth grade boys spent a day at Haven of Rest.
The fourth and sixth grade girls and boys teams packed backpacks and worked at the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. The fourth grade boys also volunteered for Blessings in a Backpack as well.
The girls teams were at one school packing and the 4th grade boys blue and white teams were at a different location in Akron. Both groups packed close to 1000 bags of food each.
The organization was so appreciative of the help and support. It was a great event and a great way to give back to the community.
The woman who organized the event said that as a result of children receiving food to take home for the weekend, there is an increase in attendance at school on both Fridays (when they receive the food) and on Mondays (after the weekend).
Also, they have seen an increase in class participation and test scores.
The third/fourth grade girls, fifth/sixth girls and fourth grade boys blue and white travel teams sorted food and packed bags for Blessings in a Backpack. Blessings in a Backpack is a national organization who provides food on the weekend for elementary school children who might otherwise go hungry.
Each week before the weekend volunteers gather to pack bags of food that will be distributed to children in need to take home from school in their backpack.
