Intro to mindfulness speaker Feb. 7

The Coalition for Children's Mental Health is happy to announce that Jessica Jensen will present "An Introduction to Mindfulness and Its Role in the Classroom." Discover how your child may already be learning mindfulness and what the science says about mindfulness as an educational tool at this free presentation on Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. in the Media Center of East Woods School.

CCMH's mission is to provide educational opportunities designed to increase the understanding of behavioral and emotional disorders in children and youth while promoting mental wellness for all. Through advocacy, CCMH strives to raise the awareness of mental health issues and to decrease the stigma of mental illness. Magician to perform at PTO night Feb. 10

Magician Rick Smith Jr. has appeared on "Ellen," "America's Got Talent," and "The Tonight Show" and now he'll be in Hudson for PTO Family Magic Night.

Smith's fast-paced blend of magic, comedy and illusion has stunned audiences around the globe, and in 2002 he received an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records for throwing a playing card more than 216 feet.

Birthday Book Club enrollment open

Enrollment for the Birthday Book Club is now open for ALL birthdays. Hudson PTO invites you to commemorate your child's birthday by buying a brand new book for your child's school library. The cost of a book is $15.

As a participant in the Birthday Book Club your child will choose a new book from the school library's Birthday Bookshelf, have a permanent bookplate with his or her name placed in the inside cover of the book, receive a certificate and bookmark, presented during library period and will have the first opportunity to check out the new library book.

HCER ski trip to New York Feb. 20

Hudson Community Education and Recreation is sponsoring a ski trip to Holimont Ski Resort in Ellicottville, New York on Feb. 20. This trip allows students and families to experience the private ski resort on the President's Day holiday. Trip includes transportation and lift ticket and rental equipment if needed.

Students in grades 6-12 as well as area adults and families receive transportation by charter bus to and from Holimont. Pick up is at 6am at Hudson High School and return is at approximately 8:30 p.m. With 52 slopes that cover 135 skiable acres Holimont Ski Area offers terrain for every ability level.

Cost for the trip is $105 for lift ticket only and $135 for lift ticket and ski or snowboard rental, per person. Helmets are recommended.
