MACEDONIA -- Although the city is considering a $3 a month residential fee for leaf and branch pick-up, the legislation was permanently tabled by City Council at the Jan. 26 meeting.

The item, which was placed on first reading Jan. 12, would charge the fee "per residential unit," according to the legislation.

If approved, it would raise about $162,000 a year for the city to use to repair and re-stock its supply of service department vehicles.

Councilor David Engle, who moved to table the motion, later told the News Leader, "Council didn't support it."

Mayor Joe Migliorini previously said the city could use the proceeds to buy a vehicle for leaf pick-up or a chipping machine.

"It would be a big service that we'd provide to residents."
