On Thursday, Jan. 26, the Summa Heath Board of Directors received and accepted the resignation of Summa Health president and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Thomas Malone.

"I care deeply about the future of Summa Health and am incredibly proud of all that we have accomplished together over the last two years," Malone said in a statement provided to the media by Summa Health. "However, as I thought about what would be best for our organization moving forward, it became clear to me that my presence may be a distraction from our goals. And that is unacceptable to me."

We "want to acknowledge and thank Tom for the tremendous growth and success that Summa Health has achieved during his tenure," the Board of Directors said in a statement issued to the media. "Summa Health would not be the thriving organization it is today without his leadership." Malone will stay on as CEO for up to 60 days while the board searches for a replacement, the board said in its statement.

"In our search we will be focused on finding the best leader to continue implementing Summa Health's vision for population health and improving the health and wellness of our community while transforming the culture of our organization," the statement said. "Our board will work closely with Dr. Malone and our leadership team to ensure a smooth transition and continue the day to day operations of Summa Health."

"I appreciate each member of the Summa Health family that has been with me on this journey over the last two years," Malone said. "Together, we have made great strides in moving the organization forward. I thank every one of them and will root for Summa Health's continued success."
