President Donald Trump was sworn in Jan. 20 as the 45th president of the United States during the 58th presidential inauguration at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
In his 16-minute speech, Trump enbraced nationalism, echoed the same populist themes that led to his unexpected victory and made it clear that "America comes first."
"Jan. 20, 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again," he said. "The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer."
Meanwhile, Washington police reported more than 230 arrests as bands of protesters dressed in black smashed windows and pelted riot police with rocks before the inauguration.
