Village Council re-elects president, vice president

Silver Village Council President Jerry Jones (At Large) and Village Council Vice President Carol Steiner (District B) were both re-elected to their respective positions during Council's organizational meeting Jan. 3. Council leaders also decided to maintain the same committee and seating assignments for the meetings.

The next meeting is slated for Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. in Village Hall, 2961 Kent Road. The regular session is expected to be preceded by a committee of the whole meeting at 6 p.m. in which Council will speak with Planning Commission member Dennis Stoiber about proposed legislation limiting the amount of impervious surface that is allowed on a lot with a structure or one where a structure would be built.

Woodridge School Board elects new president, vice president

The Woodridge Local School District's Board of Education met Jan. 3 in its annual organizational meeting. Through nominations and appointments by their peers, Jeff McHugh was named the board's new president and Tammy Heffernan the new vice-president, according to Walter Davis, the district's superintendent.

Committee assignments for the new year are as follows:

Policy Committee: Jan Flasco / Heffernan.

Finance Committee: Marilyn Hansen / McHugh.

Wellness Committee: Linda Ocepek / Heffernan.

Legislative Liaison: Flasco.

Student Achievement Liaison: McHugh.

Woodridge Foundation Representative: McHugh.

The meeting schedule remains the same: The third Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m. at Woodridge High School.

Village will pick upChristmas trees starting Jan. 9

The Silver Lake Service Department will be picking up Christmas trees for recycling starting on Jan. 9 and will continue through Jan. 20, according to Mark Lipan, the village's service director. All decorations, tree stands and plastic bags must be removed or trees will not be picked up as these items damage the chipper. Artificial trees will not be picked up.
