Twinsburg -- In its final meeting for 2016, City Council unanimously passed several ordinances for improvements that will take place in the coming year.
One ordinance means that residents who use the Twinsburg Fitness Center will see improved locker rooms. Council approved a $230,000 contract with Sanders Contracting to improve some of the men's and women's locker rooms.
"We want to start the work as soon as possible," said Councilor Bill Furey.
The city also will see an upgrade to its telephone system. Council approved a $9,000 contract with Forerunner Technologies. Greg Harwell of the engineering department said that the current phone system is 15 years old.
In addition, Council also gave first readings to a contract with Cavanaugh Building Cooperation for renovations to the Gleneagles Golf Course clubhouse, and a contract with Miller Curb and Paving Inc. for stormwater and sidewalk improvements on Ravenna Road, Richner Court and Charles Court.
Engineer Any Mohr said the bid from Miller Curb and Paving was "the lowest, best bid" at $598,366.25. The construction will include repairs to storm sewers on Richner Court, between Route 91 and Ravenna Road, and replacing the storm structure at Charles Court.
