Munroe Falls -- The opportunities for shooting hoops at the Guise Park basketball court should increase next year.
The Ohio Controlling Board, which deals with adjustments to the state budget, approved a $12,000 Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks grant for lighting at the court.
"It's used quite often and this will provide additional use in the evening," said Anne DiCola, the city's community and economic development coordinator.
The grant, which the city applied for this past May, was part of nearly $3 million in grants the board approved for 89 local park projects statewide.
DiCola said the $17,213 project will include $4,500 in funds from the city and $713 in labor to provide better access to make the basketball court compliant with the federal Americans with Disability Act.
"We'll be putting in the concrete pathway," she said, adding the project is expected to be done next year.
"We're hoping it can be completed in the summer," said DiCola.
DiCola said the addition of lighting in 2010 at the two Guise Park tennis courts was also paid for with a NatureWorks grant.
