Two men are facing felony charges in connection with improper relationships with a 14-year-old Munroe Falls girl.
According to Stow Municipal Court records, Akron resident Michael P. Bard, 33, did not enter pleas to charges of third-degree felony unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and fifth-degree felony importuning on Nov. 16. He is scheduled for a Nov. 21 pretrial hearing and was being held in Summit County Jail on a 10 percent of $100,000 bond as of Nov. 17. An attorney for Bard could not be identified by press time.
According to Summit County Court of Common Pleas court records, a Summit County grand jury indicted Lodi resident David T. Huff, 36, on two counts of fourth-degree felony pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and one count each of fourth-degree felony illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance and fifth-degree felony importuning. Huff pleaded not guilty to the charges Nov. 9, according to court records and is scheduled for a Nov. 21 pretrial hearing.
Huff was being held in Summit County Jail on a 10 percent of $10,000 bond as of Nov. 17. His attorney, Andrea Whitaker, declined to comment.
"It's a continuing investigation," said Munroe Falls Police Chief Jerry Hughes on Nov. 16, adding that Tallmadge Police Lt. Jeremy McGee, a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, is assisting with the investigation, particularly on computer and cell phone forensics.
Hughes said that with the assistance of Medina police, Munroe Falls police officers arrested Huff in Medina on Oct. 3. Hughes said Bard was identified as allegedly being involved with the girl during the investigation of Huff and the U.S. Marshal's Service arrested him in Kenmore, where he was staying with his father.
Hughes said it is not known at this time whether Huff and Bard know each other, but apparently both men initially contacted the girl through Facebook "roughly" six months before the investigation began in September.
Hughes said Huff's girlfriend found "disturbing" images of the girl online and believing Huff was having an affair, contacted her family to find out who she is.
"The family then contacted us [on Sept. 13]" said Hughes, adding that "[the girlfriend] thought there was another woman. She didn't know this was a child."
