Rachel Garrett of Aurora was among more than 400 first-year students welcomed to the Baldwin Wallace University campus this fall who claimed $5.2 million in Merit scholarships.

Garrett, a graduate of Aurora High, earned a $15,000 Presidential Scholarship based on outstanding academic achievements in high school.

BW's Merit scholarships are awarded to full-time students and are renewable up to four years with good academic and social standing. The university also grants a wide range of others scholarships to students.

Elizabeth Polasky of Aurora is a member of Alpha Delta Pi at Ashland University. She is majoring in nursing, and is the daughter of Thomas and Heather Polasky and a 2013 graduate of Aurora High.

Maria Erste of Aurora is a member of the Newman Catholic Campus Ministry organization at Ashland University. She is majoring in social work, is the daughter of John and Theresa Erste and is a 2014 graduate of Aurora High.

Through service, faith sharing, education, worship, personal relationships and celebration, the organization strives to foster the spiritual growth of all students and the Ashland University community.
