Twinsburg -- Locations were purposely left off of the photos inside "Explore Twinsburg, A Photographic Essay of Twinsburg, Ohio."
Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce Executive Director and "Explore Twinsburg" committee member Abby Fechter said the committee wanted the book to be engaging.
"We want people to have conversations around this book," Fechter said. "We want people to explore Twinsburg."
The committee, staffed by Fechter, past Chamber presidents Peter DeSouza and Gary Sorace, photographer Mark Gutowski and Audrey Kancler from the Twinsburg Historical Society, wanted to offer an essay in photographic art, a snapshot of modern day life in Twinsburg.
Gutowski took the cover shot of Twinsburg Township Square as fog lifted early on a Sunday morning.
DeSouza wrote the vivid page descriptions. As he explored the book looking for inspiration, DeSouza said he was taken by the uniqueness of the town.
"I began to see a pattern of being separate but being connected," DeSouza said.
DeSouza noted how people in the city are so diverse, yet when the city comes together for school or city events, "they are all one."
That pattern is evident on all of book's 96 pages, a project that was two years in the making.
Gutowski brought the idea for the book to the Chamber and historical society.
"I wanted to put together a coffee table book to showcase Twinsburg," he said.
The answer was an enthusiastic yes from the two organizations, and a committee was formed.
The committee put out a call to the public for photos, Fechter said.
The committee spent hours looking at nearly 1,000 picture submissions, first weeding out the flawed photos -- too dark, too light, too blurry -- to choose those that became the 96-page, full color book that will be available just in time for Twinsburg's Bicentennial in 2017.
The book can be purchased online at ExporeTwinsburg.org; at the Twinsburg Chamber of Commerce, 9044 Church St. in Twinsburg; or from the Twinsburg Historical Society, 8996 Darrow Road.
The book is also available at Chamber events, watch www.twinsburgbulletin.com or visit twinsburgchamber.com for upcoming events.
