A Falls school official is a finalist for the vacant treasurer position at the Ravenna School District.

David M. Hoskin, treasurer and CFO of the Cuyahoga Falls School District, was one of the top two candidates of six interviewed by the Ravenna Board of Education. The other is Daniel Russomanno Jr., treasurer at the Mapleton School District in Ashland. Both men have mailing addresses in Garrettsville.

Phillip Butto, treasurer of the Ravenna district since 2011, resigned in August to take a position at the Kenston School District in Geauga County. Lisa Crescimano is serving as interim treasurer.

Superintendent Dennis Honkala said the board will meet in executive session on Oct. 11 to conduct final interviews with both. The board hopes to extend an offer to one of the men by the end of next week, but it's not clear when the person will start working in Ravenna.

Hoskin has served in Cuyahoga Falls since 2012, and also was treasurer of Newbury Local Schools from 2004 to 2012. Previously, he worked in newspaper circulation, serving as circulation director of the Record Publishing Company from 1984 to 1995, and then as distribution center manager at the Plain Dealer from 1995 to 2003.

Russomanno has worked as treasurer of the Mapleton district since 2011. Previously, he worked in the treasurer's office at the Ravenna district, where he processed Ravenna's payroll, and assisted previous treasurers with monthly and annual reports. Before starting his career in school finance, Russomanno worked for more than 10 years at Paul's Lumber Do-It Best Center in Garrettsville, where he had been store manager.

The district has hired Finding Leaders, a school search firm, to handle its search for a treasurer. The same firm also found Crestwood's superintendent a few years ago. There were 18 applicants for the treasurer's position.
