This past August, the Woodland Elementary School Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and Stow-Munroe Falls High School student James Serri worked together to spearhead an ongoing project to improve the Woodland Elementary School courtyard. Both staff and students are excited about the recent upgrades and look forward to the plans for the future.
"We are so thankful for the hard work put forth by James and the PTA members," said Mary Lou Muckleroy, Woodland Elementary School principal. "Their efforts will be remembered and appreciated by generations of students and staff members to come."
Renovations to the courtyard included a complete cleanout and the development of a gravel walkway and seating area for students and staff to enjoy. James built new picnic tables for the courtyard as a part of his Eagle Scout project.
Future plans for the Woodland Elementary courtyard include the construction of a weather station and pavilion.
"It is always a blessing to see dedicated members of the community work together for the betterment of our students' experiences in our school system," said Tom Bratten, superintendent of the Stow-Munroe Falls City School District.
"And, the fact that a student collaborated with our PTA members on this particular project has made it especially memorable."
