Tara Pringle Jefferson, a speaker, writer and self-care coach from Stow, will be recognized as the 2016 Recent Alumni Award recipient from the College of Education, Health and Human Services at Kent State University at the Seventh Annual Hall of Fame Awards Ceremony. The event will be Oct. 21 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Kent State University Hotel and Conference Center.

Jefferson has received two degrees from Kent State, earning a bachelor's degree in magazine journalism and a master's degree in human development and family studies.

Jefferson is the founder of multiple global sites, including TheYoungMommyLife.com, which won "Best Parenting Blog" and earned her a spot of Mom.Me's list of Top 50 bloggers. She created the site after her own experience as a student-parent at Kent State. Through that site, she offered support and community to young mothers under the age of 25, helping them to make informed decisions about their relationships, career, education and more.

Taking the support offline, she hosted the "Young Mom Summit" in 2014 at Kent State, which featured workshops on mental health, financial literacy and career guidance. The first event drew participants from three states. The summit garnered in-kind support from Fortune 500 companies and area institutions including Cedar Point, the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.

In 2015, she took the message of self love and acceptance to a broader audience by creating the "Bloom Beautifully Box," a self-care subscription box. With this new business, she teaches women that the best way to achieve their goals is to first "pour into themselves." She also hosts workshops on stress reduction, time management and personal development.

The College of EHHS will honor Jefferson and six other distinguished alumni, including Dr. Adelaida Santana Pellicuier (Diversity Award), Dr. Philip Wagner (Alumni Leadership Award), Greg Jarvie (Distinguished Alumni Award), Dr. Vicki Haywood Doe (Distinguished Service Award), Charles Fensch (Centennial Award) and Dr. Lennise Baptiste (International Award).
