Northfield Village -- Mayor Jesse Nehez is looking for three people to join the Northfield Village Recreation Board.
There are currently two members on the five-member board, former Councilors Bea Greenlee and Linda Bowen. Councilor Renell Noack serves as Council's liason to the board.
Nehez said the board has in the past been essential to planning and implementing events such as movies in the park.
"We had five members at one time, but one by one they all fizzled out for different reasons including just not having time to do it," Nehez said at village Council's Sept. 14 meeting.
The village is accepting applications and letters of interest until Oct. 1. Nehez said qualified candidates must be a registered voter and have lived in the village for at least one year.
The rec board meets the first Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the village hall.
Letters of interest can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or dropped off at village hall.
Nehez said if not enough residents are interested in the rec board, he would like to explore changing the village's charter to have Council members serve as rec board members.
After some discussion as to whether the village can afford to add the paving job to the budget for this year, Council voted 4-2 in favor of paving Coventry Road before the snow flies.
Paving was scheduled for Sept. 27, weather permitting, but Service Director Jason Walters said that based on the weather forecast at press time, the project would likely happen Sept. 28.
He expects paving to be completed in the morning and residents to have full access to the road by the evening hours the same day.
Finance Director Tricia Ingrassia said the cost for contractor Mid-Ohio Asphalt to do the work is $18,800.
Councilors Jim Daugherty and Gary Vojtush voted against the project.
Daugherty said he wanted more discussion before proceeding.
"I think we need to go over a couple things before we spend too much money," he said.
Ingrassia said she was "comfortable" the village could handle the expenditure.
