Earn Fall Hiking Spree credit while hiking with doctors from Cleveland Clinic Akron General and a Summit Metro Parks naturalist.  Each “Healthy Strides” program includes a brief, informative talk by a physician or caregiver, followed by a casual 1- to 3-mile walk.  October’s “Healthy Strides” include the following:  • Oct. 8, 10 – 11:30 a.m. Topic: Breast Health, presented by Amanda Mendiola, MD, Akron General Breast Surgeons, Silver Creek Metro Park / Pheasant Run Trail, 5000 Hametown Road, Norton.  • Oct. 19, noon to 1 p.m. Topic: Orthopedic Wellness, presented by William Lanzinger, MD, Akron General Orthopedics, Firestone Metro Park / Redwing Trail, 2620 Harrington Road, Akron  Topics change each session based on the leader’s specialty. All “Healthy Strides” hikes will be on hiking spree trails.  The Fall Hiking Spree began Sept. 1 and is the largest and longest-running event of its kind in the nation.  A first-time participant who completes eight hikes through Nov. 30 will earn a hiking staff and metal shield. A veteran spree hiker will earn a shield. Hikes can be completed on a person’s own schedule and at their own pace, or during a number of naturalist-led hikes offered by the park district.  For more information, and for upcoming “Healthy Strides” program dates, visit summitmetroparks.org or call 330-865-8065.
