Be creative

Want to try something new and creative? There will be monthly classes to choose from:

Halloween Wreath - a simplistic wreath made with Styrofoam and Halloween paper. Great for the season. Sept. 27 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Fall Wreath - fall leaf colors with animal print flowers on a grapevine wreath. Class is on Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to noon.

There is a registration and class fee which includes all materials except participants should bring scissors and adhesives. Sample projects on display at the Quirk Cultural Center.

Empty Bowl event

The Cuyahoga Falls Park and Recreation Department announces a 30-year anniversary celebration for the Quirk Cultural Center during the week of Sept. 26.

There will be week-long fiber displays, discounts at the Craft Shoppe, creative demonstrations, Community Band and Chorus preview, and a facility open house culminating with an Empty Bowl Dinner on Sept. 30 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Students who have taken ceramics and pottery have created the bowls. The proceeds from the dinner will go to Good Neighbors of Cuyahoga Falls helping the community families in need.

Dinner reservations are required and are on sale now at the Quirk Cultural Center. Tickets for the event includes a handcrafted bowl, chili or vegetable chili, cornbread, desert and beverage. There is a lower priced bowl for youth 12 and under.

Adult Pottery

Adults need some creative time too so why not try your hand at pottery if you are in the creative mood?

All students will benefit from individual attention to perfecting their skill. Classes will be on Tuesdays, Sept. 13 through Oct. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesdays, Sept. 14 through Oct. 19 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Those who have never taken a clay class will begin with hand throwing and work their way up to throwing the clay on the wheel. There is a fee for the class with firing and glazes included. Clay additional fee.

Preregistration is required for all classes which have a registration fee.


Sign up now for Mudcakes clay class for 6 to 8 year olds, slated for Tuesdays, Sept. 13, 20, and 27 from 4 to 4:45 p.m.

They will learn to explore working with clay and creating their own masterpiece. This class was postponed for a week so the parks department is still taking registrations. There is a fee for the class. Pre-registration is required.

Belly dancing

The Cuyahoga Falls Parks and Recreation Department is offering belly dancing fitness class at the Quirk Cultural Center, 1201 Grant Ave.

Come join the fun, meet new people, and get some exercise. This beginner class consists of low impact dancing set to authentic Middle Eastern music in a supportive atmosphere. All classes are four-week sessions taking place on Monday evenings with a new session beginning on Monday, Sept. 19 and running through Oct. 10 from 7 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Working with

Essential Oils


The parks and recreation department is offering°Working with Essential Oils classes at the Quirk Cultural Center.

Three different classes are offered this fall. Participants will be introduced to all the healthy benefits of using 100 percent pure essential oils and instructors will discuss the proper ways of using the oils and why to use them. Having essential oils in the home is a great first line of defense for all types of aliments. For more information and class fees, call the Parks and Recreation Office at 330-971-8225. / Rollerball Remedies: Choose to make two of your own natural remedy rollerball blend for: allergies, bumps and bruises, colds and flu, congestion, digestive problems, focus, insomnia or muscle aches and pains. Sept. 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

/ Rollerballs for Kids: This class is for anyone who has children in their lives. Come learn more about essential oils and make a natural rollerball blend for: protection from seasonal elements, soothing occasional skin irritations, supporting immune function, promoting restful sleep, focus and more. Oct. 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

/ Rollerball for Babies and Mamas: Make rollerball blends for: easing discomfort of baby's new teeth, respiratory and digestive support, mama mood support and support for breastfeeding moms. Nov. 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Stop by the Farmers Market in the Falls

The parks and recreation department has the Falls Farmers' Market at the Quirk Cultural Center every Friday through Sept. 30 from 3 to 6 p.m.
