Bainbridge -- A 56-year-old Reminderville man, accused of robbing a Bainbridge Township bank, pleaded not guilty Aug. 23 in Geauga County Court of Common Pleas.
Michael V. Holohan of Connecticut Street appeared with a public defender before Judge Forrest Burt and pleaded not guilty to one count each of robbery and kidnapping, both second-degree felonies; extortion, a third-degree felony; and theft of more than $1,000, a fifth-degree felony.
Robbery and kidnapping carry mandatory prison terms of two to eight years, if convicted. The prison term for extortion is nine months to three years, and six months to one year for theft.
Holohan was arrested nearly a month after allegedly robbing a Bainbridge Township Chase Bank June 24. He is accused of handing a teller a threatening note, then fleeing with more than $1,000.
He was found by Bainbridge police July 21 sitting in a plaza parking lot near Reminderville, according to Bainbridge Police Chief Jon Bokovitz.
"We knew he spent a lot of time there, just sitting, reading books," Bokovitz said.
Bainbridge police announced on their Facebook page July 27 that Holohan was identified "with help from a tip, some assistance from the Geauga Sheriff's Office, and a lot of investigative work by our detectives.
"We got a tip and followed it up, and it led to him," Bokovitz said Aug. 23.
Holohan has admitted to the robbery, the chief said, and told police where to find the hoodie he was wearing and the stick-up note he used during the robbery. Bokovitz said the note was ripped into several pieces.
"He said he needed the money, that he was behind on bills," Bokovitz said.
In December 2010, Holohan pleaded guilty in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court to robbing a Solon Giant Eagle pharmacy. Additional charges of drug trafficking and drug possession were dismissed. He was placed on three years probation.
Holohan remains in the Geauga County Jail on a $250,000 cash or surety bond. His case is assigned to Geauga County Court of Common Pleas Judge David L. Fuhry.
