146th Memorial Day Parade, Service

This year's 146th annual Memorial Day Parade and Service has been set for May 26 beginning at 10 a.m., with parade participants assembling in the Our Lady of Victory parking lot at 9.30 a.m.

The parade will proceed to the Circle and advance to the Tallmadge Cemetery for a service with a chance to reflect on the sacrifices made by veterans.

The Tallmadge American Legion is asking all veterans, whether they are affiliated with a veterans group or not, to march in the parade.

Leading off the parade this year will be the Tallmadge Police Honor Guard, Northeast Ohio Honor Guard Team, Garfield High School Navy JROTC, and the Tallmadge American Legion Post 255 and Auxiliary Unit.

John Ziegler's older military vehicles will be passing in review.

The Tallmadge High School Band, Tallmadge fire and police departments, Gold Star Mothers, Mayor David Kline and City Council, Tallmadge Girl Scouts, Brownies, Tallmadge Primetimers, Tallmadge Lions, Tallmadge Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts and military veterans, along with other groups will march in the parade.

Larry Moore of the Veterans Service Commission will serve as the Featured speaker this year.

Flag distribution

On May 23 at 6:30 p.m., Tallmadge American Legion Post 255 will place flags on the graves of all veterans buried in Tallmadge Cemetery in preparation for Memorial Day services. Local Girl and Boy Scout, Brownie and Cub Scout troops will assist in this program.

Anyone who has or knows of a veteran's grave that is in need of a flag holder and flag is asked to meet at the cemetery or call the numbers listed below.

All those planning to assist are asked to meet at the gazebo in the cemetery

Annual Memorial Day Pancake


The Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfast May 26 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Tallmadge Community Center, 80 Community Road.

Breakfast includes all you can eat pancakes, with sausage, orange juice, coffee, tea and milk.

The cost is $6 for the adults, $4 for children ages 4 through 10, and free for children ages 3 and younger.

Annual 5K run, walk

Ritchies Sporting Goods will host the 21st annual Tallmadge Memorial Day 5K Run and 1 mile Fun Run-Walk May 26.

The 5K run starts and finishes close to the historic Tallmadge Circle and weaves it's way through the beautiful residential section of the city of Tallmadge. The women will start at 7:30 a.m. and the men will start at 8:15 a.m.

After the race, finishers are invited to enjoy a free pancake breakfast courtesy of the Tallmadge Chamber of Commerce.

The 1 mile fun run starts at 8:45 a.m. and finishes close to the historic Tallmadge Circle in the same location as the 5K.
