The following items are reprinted from the Aurora High School Communicator newsletter.

Aurora High School seniors are preparing for the big day of commencement, which will take place May 31 at 7 p.m. at Kent State University's MAC Center.

Commencement practice will be that morning, and buses will take students there from Aurora. Students should report to the high school at 8 a.m. All seniors must attend the practice. Those who don't cannot participate in the ceremony. Practice should last about two hours.

When students return from KSU, they can proceed to Sunny Lake Park for the senior picnic. They are to be back at KSU by 6:15 p.m. dressed in appropriate clothing and with their caps and gowns.

There is no limit to the number of guests allowed at the ceremony, and no tickets are necessary.

Meanwhile, the senior family breakfast will be May 20 at 7:30 a.m. in the commons. Caps and gowns will be distributed then and all fees must be paid and books and uniforms returned before the breakfast.

Help is needed for the senior picnic for setup and cleanup, and donations of drinks, watermelon, snacks and desserts are appreciated. For details about the picnic, contact Chad Calder at 440-724-4544 or

The senior internship symposium will be May 21 at 7 p.m., and all students who complete an internship must attend to be permitted to participate in commencement.

Final exams for seniors will be May 22-23, and the last day for their classes is May 23. Baccalaureate will be May 27 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. The service will last about an hour.

Any seniors who choose not to participate in commencement can pick up their diplomas June 2 in the AHS guidance office.

AHS's prom will be May 17 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Bertram Inn. After-prom will follow from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. at the school. No tickets are sold at the door for after-prom.

Underclassmen's exams will be May 30 and June 2-3. Exams represent 20 percent of the students' second semester grade.

The high school's quiz team recently competed in the state tournament for the first time, and placed eighth. Members are Michael Kuryshev, Ryan Sharafuddin, Tommy Riedy, Mario Cribari and Scott Sutton.
