Aurora officials tout advantages of multi-use district
Nearly 200 residents have turned out in the last two weeks to get the scoop on how a multi-use or mixed-use zoning district would work if Issue 11 is approved by voters May 6.
Informational sessions have taken place at Aurora VFW Post 2629, the Hawthorn of Aurora clubhouse and Harmon School, where city officials have explained the multi-use or mixed-use concept, and what would happen if Issue 11 is successful.
Petition pushes for resignation of Cuyahoga Falls School Board President
An online petition is pushing for the resignation of Cuyahoga Falls City School Board president Kellie Patterson, from that post as well as the Board of Education. But Patterson says the "petition has no basis in fact" and she has "no" intention to resign.
As of press time, April 3, more than 400 supporters were listed on the online petition which 16-year-old Falls High sophomore Zak Grant told the Falls News-Press he created with another male, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Wild turkey attacks Hudson EMS center, flies coop to avoid capture
On March 29, shortly after 10 a.m., the EMS center on Oviatt Street was attacked by a lone suspect that broke one pane of glass, attempted to break several more and jumped onto a squad before escaping authorities.
The attacker left a blood trail and other DNA samples behind, according to officials. Police believe this was an isolated incident.
Roxanne Lee Buck indicted in Michelle Johnson murder in Stow
Summit County Prosecuting Attorney Sherri Bevan Walsh announced Friday that a grand jury indicted Bryn Mawr Drive resident Roxanne Lee Buck, 44, with special felony murder and third-degree felony tampering with evidence in the murder of 21-year-old Michelle Johnson.
Buck rented a room in the Maplepark Road home shared by Johnson and her mother. A Stow police officer discovered Johnson’s body in a shed behind the home March 15 after Johnson’s mother, who was in West Virginia, called police and asked them to check on her daughter after she lost contact with her.
Eric J. Hartman of Tallmadge sentenced to eight years in prison for sex-related crimes
Eric J. Hartman, 37, of Tammery Drive, was sentenced to eight years in prison March 20 for sex-related crimes.
In January, Hartman pleaded guilty to three counts of pandering sexually oriented material, a felony of the second degree; two counts of sexual battery, a felony of the third degree; extortion, a felony of the third degree; and three counts of pandering sexually oriented material, a felony of the fifth degree.
Northfield Village man charged with illegal assembly
Northfield Village Police arrested and charged a 46-year-old Monroe Drive man with illegal assembly or possession of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs Tuesday.
Police received an anonymous tip during the morning hours of April 8, that a cylinder containing Anhydrous Ammonia was being stored in the garage of a Monroe Drive residence. According to a April 9 press release provided by the Village Police, this chemical is used to manufacture methamphetamine. No evidence was found that a methamphetamine lab was ever present on the property, the release stated.
Portion of Diagonal Road closed due to sinkhole
A portion of Diagonal Road between Route 14 and Overlook Drive in Twin Lakes is closed, due to a sinkhole.
The road was closed at about 7:30 p.m. April 3.
Ohio Supreme Court hears appeal of Ashford Thompson April 8 in murder of Officer Joshua Miktarian
The Ohio Supreme Court heard an appeal April 8 from convicted murderer Ashford Lamar Thompson in the July 13, 2008, killing of Twinsburg Police Officer Joshua Miktarian, and much of the hour-long deliberations focused on whether Thompson acted under duress that night.
Thompson, 28, remains on death row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution, more than five-and-a-half years after shooting and killing Miktarian, 33, following a late-night traffic stop at Thompson's Glenwood Drive home. An execution date has not yet been set.
