The Learned Owl will kick off their Spring Writing Workshop series next month. Each workshop will cover a specific area of writing techniques and will be taught by professional writers.

The Spring series includes: April 13, 5 to 7 p.m. Creative Nonfiction with Marsha McGregor (writer) May 18, 5 to 7 p.m. Character Arcs & Development with Sam Thomas (author of "The Midwife's Tale")

McGregor is a writer of literary nonfiction, op ed articles, features and poetry. She is frequently published in Cleveland Magazine as well as other publications including The Plain Dealer and her work has also been broadcast on NPR. She was a 2012 recipient of the Peter Taylor Fellowship for Literary Nonfiction.

Thomas is the author of "The Midwife's Tale" and "The Harlot's Tale." He has a PhD in history with a focus on Reformation England and recently left the tenure track to teach at University School near Cleveland, Ohio. He has received research grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Newberry Library, and the British Academy. He has published articles on topics ranging from early modern Britain to colonial Africa.
