Hudson -- Heritage of Hudson, a skilled nursing facility, received unanimous approval by the planning commission Feb. 10 for a 4,516-square-foot expansion to its building on Barlow Road.

Heritage of Hudson, which purchased the vacant former Flood Company facility in the city's 8th district, opened its doors in February 2013.

In September, Heritage asked for and received approval for a 15,460-square-foot addition. At the last planning commission meeting that addition was increased to 19,976-square-feet.

Dave Mitchell of LTC Realty One, who represented Heritage of Hudson at the commission meeting, said the increased footage would provide space for physical and occupational therapy areas, including a therapy pool.

Plans include an outdoor patio and increased parking spaces -- from 106 to 111 slots.

The addition also will house 30 additional beds, bringing the total bed count to 80.

In other action, the planning commission unanimously approved parking lot improvements at 50 Executive Parkway in association with Catastrophe Management Services (CMS).

The proposed project includes the installation of 578 additional parking spaces, the majority having a permeable pavement system.

Matthew Weber, of Weber Engineering Services, provided information to the commission on the permeable paver system planned for 50 Executive Parkway.

"There will be grass all year round, it's well drained and it's becoming more used as an alternative to brick paver," Weber said.

He said the pavers would supply additional parking when needed, but when not needed, it would look like a grassy lawn.

CMS deals with catastrophe management and at critical times, needs additional employees.

Weber said they decided on the paver system since the planning commission had earlier questioned the need for all that asphalt to provide for critical time parking spaces.
